About Flo Harris Lodge

Flo Harris Lodge (FHL) is a ministry of Petersham Baptist Church, established over 60 years ago.

Most of our residents are between 18 and 24, and often come from regional Australia, but we also host international students from overseas. Most are beginning tertiary studies or starting at a job in Sydney.

About the role

The Business and Finance Manager plays a vital role in ensuring FHL is administered sustainably and prudently, in compliance with its legal obligations, by:

  • Overseeing and managing the financial management of FHL, including budgeting, cash flow, financials and payroll;
  • Ensuring FHL complies with its financial obligations, including as a registered charity;
  • Overseeing maintenance relating to FHL’s buildings, grounds and gardens;
  • Overseeing, maintaining and reviewing FHL policies other than those directly related to pastoral matters;
  • Hiring, retaining, managing and supervising several FHL staff including the chef, cleaners, handymen, etc.

The Business and Finance Manager is expected to perform most of their duties on-site at FHL using the office space provided.

Selection criteria

While the below criteria list both business and financial management selection criteria, we encourage applications from those who feel they meet either the business or financial management criteria.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Strong administrative and self-management skills.
  • A proven track record of being able to work as part of a team, including supervising and leading others, whilst also being able to work independently.
  • Personal dynamism and adaptability to move between multiple tasks in the course of a day.
  • The ability to comply with FHL’s safe organisation policies, including by:
    • Agreeing to abide by, and upholding, the Code of Conduct.
    • Being eligible for, or holding, a current clearance in accordance with Working With Children Check legislation.
    • Completing a screening check questionnaire.
    • Undergoing a National Police Criminal Record Check.
  • Business managerial skills including:
    • Ability to oversee building works projects, including developing a scope of works and managing tradespeople through to completion;
    • Developing schedules and applying processes to maintain business property; and
    • Understanding and engaging with multiple compliance regimes, including relating to boarding house business operations, fire certification, child protection policies, etc.
  • Financial managerial skills including:
    • Familiarity with, or ability to develop skills with, MYOB accounting software.
    • Bookkeeping/accountancy ability including, ideally, relevant tertiary qualifications to at least diploma level.

Desirable criteria include:

  • BAS agent licence, or the ability and willingness to acquire such.
  • Experience in other charitable/ACNC businesses.
  • Experience in businesses subject to compliance regimes concerning work with children.
  • Experience with Christian residential settings and/or student ministry.
